The Open is over. 5 weeks of competition is exhausting both mentally and physically. In the end we didn’t qualify a team or send anyone as an individual to regionals. Jerry, who redid 13.5 last night at 6:45, appears to have missed the games by 4 points.
It’s easy at these times to be a little down and discouraged. To look back longingly and say “If I had just done a couple more reps.” But this does your accomplishments during The Open a disservice.
How many people snatched a PR in the first WOD? How many put a PR overhead in the 4th? How many PR’d their “Karen” at the start of 13.3? How did you push yourself in ways you never thought possible? And that’s a big thing! Most of us are already doing things daily we once thought were been impossible – and The Open, competition, pushed us further.
Going forward from here if you want to compete next year make a list, make a plan, start today. But don’t stress too much – the next phase of our training as a gym is FUN.
We’ll be doing different lifts, different moves, more outside with the nice weather. As summer rolls in there will be CrossFit Events, Regionals in Columbus, The Games in July, Triathlons, Marathons, adventure races of all types to be a part of. If you want to compete and train for next year, great, come talk to a coach and we’ll set a plan in place. Then, make sure you have fun training – it’s really all that matters.
