It’s CrossFit with a big “F” – Accepting no substitutions
Taking the time to make that “F” in CrossFit a big one is like putting RX after your name. There’s a certain amount of gravity to it.
There’s some legal mumbo-jumbo behind that big “F” that men such as Russ Greene, men much smarter than I who live at CrossFit HQ, could educate you on. But there’s also the philosophical part.
The barbell, the burpee, the pull-up and the muscle-up were all around before our big “F” umbrella. Putting them together was unique, but not revolutionary in itself. Believing everyone could join in – that took capitalization.
Today that upper-cased creation is adjusted and repacked. Then it’s marketed and sold. In a way, it’s cool that knockoffs try to copy what we do by putting big “X”s before their names. But what are they trying to copy exactly; weightlifting, running, intensity? No.
They’re community mooching. Acting cool by association.
CrossFit copy cats aren’t trying to propose a method of fitness, they’re watching lot’s of people clammer to a community and they want a piece. If it was just about getting stronger and faster for the love of it, they wouldn’t do their best to look, sound, and project as we do.
I don’t think we should fear it. I don’t think it will stop either, but now I think it matters. I think that big “F” will eventually be a net catching like minded, purposeful personalities who don’t wanna be lied to or spoken for. Someday, I think that big “F” will be all that separates a love for people from a love for profit.
