April Beginner’s Classes start MONDAY April 1st at 7AM and 6:30PM.
Programming Macro Phases
Have you ever wondered why we do what we do each day? CrossFit is constantly varied but NOT random. Our programming is broken down into several different Macro (large scale) and Micro (small scale) cycles. The micro cycles, as short as 2 weeks, overlap and fit together to reach a macro goal.
The year generally breaks down like this:
Winter – Met Con
Spring – Fun
Summer – Strength
Autumn – Speed Strength
They’re not exact 3 Month Macro Cycles because of the games season but it’s roughly whats above. So where does that leave us? We’re just finishing up a “Met Con” (Metabolic Conditioning aka: “Double Unders and burpees and rowing again?”) and we’re moving into a “Fun” phase.
Fun is a highly technical term used only in the most advanced and skilled CrossFit training. Basically we’re going to be doing a metric ton of new, challenging, weird, different things all with the goal of enjoying CrossFit for CrossFit’s sake.
In the next couple of weeks we’ll be putting together teams and training plans for non-CrossFit events: Warrior Dashes to Tri’s and Marathons. We’ll be doing more strongman movements like Yoke Walks, Tire Flips, and other stuff you’ve never done before.
Summer is coming. Pool season is coming. It’s time to focus on the FUN in CrossFit and life.
