I spent yesterday writing some thoughts about the recent negative CrossFit press but I’m not going to post them. Ultimately it comes down to this:
Each and every CrossFit gym is independently owned and operated. We set our own standards of practice for movement, programming, class structure, coaching development, and everything else. Some gyms are great while others are not. I have heard horror stories about CrossFit gyms and I have heard the highest praises sung about other CrossFit gyms. We are not all the same, which is why at MTM we encourage our members to visit other local and non-local boxes. Connect with other CrossFitters, see how they do things at their boxes and let your coaches at MTM know what you liked and didn’t like. We do not exist in a bubble and we’re not afraid of losing you to another gym.
As for MTM CrossFit, we routinely talk about the dangers of bad movement, Rhabdo, poor diet, poor recovery, the need for rest, and the like. I’ve done CrossFit everyday for 6 years, we have 2 board certified Physical Therapists among our coaching staff, a coaching apprenticeship program to develop new coaches, and a tried and true community of athletes to back up our talk with ACTUAL IMPROVEMENT month-over-month and year-over-year. It’s a great time to be doing CrossFit!
